Building Thermographic Survey
Our basic building survey consists of a complete interior and exterior scan of the building to identify any excessive temperature differences. Upon the discovery of any locations which would require further attention, our technician will mark these locations by capturing photographs of the area identified. Most buildings, up to 2,000 sq.ft. typically take about an hour to survey.
Once complete, the technician will download the pictures into a formal report which is then delivered to the customer within 5 business days. Any specific areas of concern should also be brought to the attention of the technician while the survey is being done so that the appropriate documentation (pictures) can be gathered during the survey.
In order to achieve an accurate survey it is suggested that the customer prepare for the survey by doing the following:
- Move all furniture, bedding, appliances and large pictures away from external walls, if possible. In order to achieve optimum results this should be done at least an hour before your scheduled survey. If this is not done, the walls will not be conditioned appropriately and may show inaccurate infrared results. Unconditioned portions of walls always appear as defects, since conditioned air will not pass through furniture.
- Remove any heavy window coverings that may interfere with a clear scan of the window frames. Window coverings prevent the window frames and adjacent walls from being conditioned properly, and may result in exaggerated results.
- Open all closet doors. Conditioning the interior of the closets will help to identify any exterior wall problems located within this area.
- Make sure all windows and doors are kept closed for several hours prior to the survey time. Indoor and outdoor temperatures should differ by at least 15-20 degrees in order to get optimum infrared results. This is very important. You must have adequate temperature differences between the inside and outside temperatures for the infrared scan to be able to detect problems. If the difference in temperatures is not sufficient, you may need to turn on the heat (in the colder months) or turn on the A/C (in the summer months) in order to increase the difference.
We ask that payment for services be rendered upon completion of the initial survey and before the report is delivered. The final report will be a printed copy, but can also be delivered via a digital (CD) copy if requested.
